2 R IRISH is Northern Ireland's only Infantry Worldwide Reserve. We support our parent Battalion, 1 R IRISH, in it's Air Assault role with 16 Air Assault Brigade, the UK's spearhead rapid reaction warfighting formation. Many of our 2 R IRISH soldiers have operational experience that regular soldiers would envy. The Bn has just seen 120 members return from an arduous tour of Afghanistan in 2008, where they had the honour of being the only TA Company to carry out the same full duties as it's regular counterparts, from OMLT to warfighting.
